What We Do


Against the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC)
 
One of the main objectives of ECPAT-Cambodia is to strengthen a strong and effective network to fight against CSEC by strengthening the internal management affairs of ECPAT and the capacity building of members.
 
CSEC is the sexual abuse of a child by an adult paid for either by cash or in kind (through   meals, clothes, payment of rent etc). The four elements are:
Child Prostitution
Child Pornography
Child Sex Tourism
Trafficking of children for sexual purposes
 
Other forms of CSEC include
Early child marriage
 
Main Activities 2005
Produced Child Safe Tourism Booklet for distribution at airports, hotels, guesthouses, travel   agencies, tour operators and border checkpoints
Produced Child Safe Tourism billboards and signboards to be placed at border provinces and other   tourist hotspots
Organized workshops with hotel and guesthouse owners, travel agencies and tour operators
Updated situational analysis on CSEC and published in local newspapers
Lobbied the Government for adoption of new law against CSEC
Monitored the implementation of Cambodian National Five Year Plan Against Commercial Sexual   Exploitation of Children (2000-2004)
Published two issues of newsletters
Organized and facilitated monthly meetings amongst member organizations so as to promote   coordination and cooperation
 
Main Activities 2006
Anti Child Trafficking Campaign was launched on 12 December, 2006 in 6 different locations in 6 provinces, hoping that it would be adopted as National Day against Child Trafficking by the Government.
Two CST training workshops were held in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism for tourism   industry personnel and relevant parties in two provinces.
A one-day training workshop for forty Tuk Tuk drivers in Phnom Penh was held in July in   cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism.
Four member meetings have been held to share information and experience.
The annual conference was conducted on 19th December, 2006 to discuss and find out future   strategies.
Two capacity building sessions were conducted for member organizations on CSEC and Data   Collection Methods.
Four issues of a situational analysis of media report on rape and trafficking were published to inform   people about trends and routes of rape and trafficking.
Four issues of CST advertisement were advertised in an In-Flight magazine.
Forty CST signboards that were carried around in Phnom Penh by Tuk Tuk displaying the message   ‘We are absolutely against child sex tourism’ along with the hotline number have been posted.
Forty thousand copies of CSEC poster have been produced and distributed to member organizations   and other interested parties.
Two mobile billboards on Child Safe Tourism have been produced and displayed on buses running   between Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville and route Phnom Penh-Siem Reap.
Two fixed billboards have been installed a long the side of the national road in Choeung Prey district   of Kampong Cham and in Smach Meanchey district of Koh Kong provinces.
 
Main Activities 2007
Continued advertising of 40 CST signboards from last year on Tuk Tuk in Phnom Penh. Twenty   more Tuk Tuks will be added soon.
Four issues of advertisement against CST were advertised in an In-Flight magazine.
Two mobile billboards against Child Sex Tourism have been produced and displayed on buses   running from Phnom Penh-Sihanouk Ville and Phnom Penh-Siem Reap.
One CST workshop with tourism industry personnel was held in Battambang province in cooperation   with the Ministry of Tourism.
Third edition of CSEC Frequent Questions and Answers Booklet were produced and distributed to   member organizations and pertinent parties.
Three situational analyses on Rape and Trafficking were produced and published in the local   newspaper.
One issue of newsletter has been printed and distributed.
Three member meetings were held and one BOD meeting was held.
One capacity building training for member organizations was conducted from 07 to 09 May, 2007.
1000 self study booklet on Psychosocial Rehabilitation was distributed to member organizations and   interested institutions.
A training workshop on record sheet completion was held for NGOs participating in database   project.
A launching workshop to release database report 2003-2004 was held in March 2007.
